KWSC enews25th June

Hello everyone and welcome to the latest e-news.

September Open
Our September Open may possibly be the biggest yet with over 90 boats potentially coming to KWSC (over 150 sailors) using the best estimates we have currently. Normally we have 30-40 boats. Our normal rota for the event therefore requires supplementing with some additions.  If you can help provide any of the following on either/both Sat 6 or Sunday 7 September please contact me asap:
  • Additional Galley Staff (half or full days)
  • Galley Breakfast Staff for Sat and Sunday mornings
  • Additional Patrol crews on both days
  • Additional people to help with entries, evening meal orders and sorting out boat lists on Sat 6th September (am)
  • Up to 4 people to help with meeting and greeting and car park / foreshore duties (Saturday am plus some reduced staffing levels on Sunday am).
  • Someone to man the Race Office during racing (one Saturday pm duty from 1 to 5pm approx and one Sunday duty from 10am to 2 pm approx). This involves manning the radio and updating entries and results on the computer.
  • In addition if you can provide help with preparation on Friday afternoon/evening  (5th Sept) please let me know.
Please note that some of these jobs can be undertaken by sailors and need not preclude you from taking part in the event.

Meetings with NWA and Kielder Partnership
We have recently met with Northumberland Water and the Kielder Partnership to discuss our looming issues with space on the site to see if there are any possibilities of expansion of boat park and other space. We await feedback on some outline proposals we presented and I will keep you updated on developments.  Your committee are working to enable the continued and long term growth and success of the club and this is part of our ongoing activities.

Year Books
All year books have been available at the club to collect for a few weeks now.  If you have not collected your copy please do so and tick your name off the list in the box.  If your name is not on the list e.g. you are new members since the list was printed, then please just add your name at the bottom so I know you have a copy.  To save a lot of postage costs and effort, the year books will not be posted this year other than to Country and Honorary members (who should already have a copy by now).

Prizes
There are still a number of 2007 prizes remaining uncollected. A list is at the bottom of this e-news.  All prizes are in the Race Office and can be collected via myself, Julie or Viola on Sundays.

Sunderland Open August
Three local clubs (Sunderland, Newbiggin and ourselves) are providing mutual Open Event support this year.  Calendars are cleared of club racing on these dates to encourage members to attend these Open Events.  The next event is at Sunderland SC on Sat/Sun 16-17 August and I hope as many of you as possible will travel and take part in this event on one or both days.  We receive plenty of support from sailors at Sunderland at our September Open every year and we need to ensure we return the complement. A poster about the event will be displayed in our clubhouse from this weekend.

Photo Web Site
As there are a few new members this year this is a good opportunity to remind you that we have a club photo web site (http://www.lookc.co.uk/pix/index.php) where you can upload photos and provide comments. The login id is anything you wish and the password is <deleted>. Also don't forget to use our main club website at www.kielderwatersc.org and also let us know if your contact details change  especially your emails (http://www.kielderwatersc.org/changeyourdetails.html). Thank you.

Housekeeping
Please remember to keep the clubhouse and grounds tidy and clean.  This includes taking home your gear from the changing room after sailing (we now have a considerable collection of sailing items, children's clothes and underwear!). Sails and other gear should not be left in the clubhouse or changing rooms please. Also please remember to clean up in the member's galley after you (and put items away once washed and dried).

Bed and Breakfast
Our website has a listing of local accommodation. If you know of any we can add to this list please let me know and I will do the necessary updates. See http://www.kielderwatersc.org/wheretostay.html for details.

Regards
